About Ross

Ross Hamilton, B.Mus.(Hons), M.Mus.(Mus.Ed.), A.Mus.A., L.Mus.A.

 

Ross began playing the piano at the age of six, under the guidance of Enid Rowe and Joan Luijerink. He continued his musical training at Sydney University, studying piano with Ken Oliver and Margaret Hair, analytical techniques with Nicholas Routley and Nicholas Cook, and music education with Peter Dunbar-Hall. He was awarded the Zelma Oakley Dineley Scholarship for his masters degree course work.

Ross’s research interests include piano music of Australian composers and music education for gifted and talented students. He has received instruction in performance from composers Ross Edwards, Graham Hair and Miloslav Penicka, and has taken part in first performances of works by Kirsty Beilharz, Ross Edwards, Miriam Hyde, Ljubo Oblikov, Miloslav Penicka, Paul Stanhope and Stephen Yates.

Since completing his studies, Ross has taught at Barker College, Knox Grammar School, Newington College, Sydney Conservatorium and the Australian Institute of Music. His students have competed successfully in eisteddfods, and have twice been placed first in the state for HSC music. He has also been an official accompanist for many instrumental and vocal competitions, including the Sydney Performing Arts Challenge, and was a founding member of The Hills Chamber Ensemble.
